Nearly 98 percent of world’s soybean meal is consumed by livestock and poultry making this industry the most important market for soybean farmers. Because of this direct connection to the production of soybean meal, animal agriculture plays a vital role in the value of soybeans.
The United States is now a leading provider, and Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay also are significant soybean meal-exporting nations. Asian countries are by far the largest importers.

Soybean Meal or Soybean Cake is the product after most of the oil is extracted from whole soybeans by pressure or solvents from soybeans. A name descriptive of the process of manufacture, such as “expeller’, “hydraulic” or “solvent extracted” is used in the brand name. It shall be designed and sold according to its protein content.

Soybean Meal 44% Protein is produced by cracking, heating and flaking soybeans and reducing the oil content of the conditioned product by the use of hexane or homologous hydrocarbon solvents. The extracted flakes are cooked and marketed as such or ground into meal.

Soybean Meal High Protein or Solvent Extracted is produced by cracking, heating and flaking dehulled soybeans and reducing the oil content of the conditioned flakes by the use of hexane or homologous hydrocarbon solvents. The extracted flakes are cooked and marketed as such or ground into meal.

Soy meal is widely used in feeding all farm animals, poultry, and fish.
Depending on the type, age, gender, physiological condition, area and level of productivity, the amount of soy meal introduced into the diets of farm animals and poultry may go up to 30%.
